SYNOPSIS --

Combine off-the-wall comedy, quirky cartoons and a contest that says “We’re proud of you!” to great kids… throw in the hilarious adventures of a good-hearted, fly-attracting hero named “Uncle Stinky” and what do you have? A book that kids (and their parents!) will devour.

Uncle Stinky, the book’s protagonist, is a good-natured character with a child-like faith to believe that he and his sidekicks can make a real difference in the world. He is a bit of a “superhero,” but refreshingly imperfect. He is unconscious of self and is entirely unaware of the fact that he is, indeed, funny. Uncle Stinky has a heart of gold, but he stinks something awful. We all have our flaws; Uncle Stinky’s is his smell. Not that he is unsanitary, mind you. The distinctly recognizable odor of onions and old fish has been in his skin from the womb. One could say that the smell is in his genes, not in his jeans.

" The Good, the Bad and the Smelly is told from the point of view of Uncle Stinky’s ten-year-old nephew, Zack with some help from Billy, another nephew every bit of two years old. Book One is comprised of three major sections. The first adventure is entitled “How Uncle Stinky Got His Sidekicks.” (Every adventurer has to have at least one sidekick!) The second is entitled “Uncle Stinky Saves Hootenholler from the Dreadful Plague of Embarrassment.” “Story Time with Uncle Stinky” falls in between the two adventures. In “Story Time,” Chris steps back and lets Uncle Stinky write the story while little Billy draws the pictures. In this volume, Stinky tells the story of “Buford the Ridiculously Enormous Blue Dog.”

The three primary sections are separated by two vignettes: a feature called “Pioneer University” (where kids get to learn important stuff with Zack and Billy) and “Barnaby’s Happiest Sing-along Songs,” a fictitious “paid advertisement” spoofing a familiar purple creature and his happy ditties.

The book is ninety-six pages long and falls into the chapter book category. However, unlike most chapter books, the pages are abundantly illustrated. Chris set out to design a book in which the reader could get lost in each two-page spread. Though Uncle Stinky is written for young to middle grade children, the humor woven into this tale has a very broad appeal. Children chuckle at his adventures...but adults have been known to howl.

I'm going to stand here until you agree to buy "The Good, the Bad and the Smelly." C'mon it'll only cost 5.95...IT AIN'T GONNA KILL YA.

Warning! Uncle Stinky books can be addicting!

Waiting until the fall of 2005 for Book 3 to be released may prove to be too much to bear for some of the more "hard core" Uncle Stinky junkies.
